Ashes
Joey S.

Sauntering down an old dirt path
Her pockets filled with posies.
Black bark trees lined the way
Toward her once upon a time.
The place where children play
In the occupied graveyards.
Where the buzzards snicker
At the ring around the roises.
The melting pot of tragic plague
Turns to nothing but ashes and dust
And every one falls down
Only to get back up…
This is one of my favorite poems I ever wrote. It's a spin off of the children's nursery rhyme "Ring around the rosie". Not alot of people know but the nursery rhyme was actualy about death and pleague. I was trying to retell the story in a more adultrated way. If you want to know more about the truth on the original poem then it's a easy search on the internet and you'll find lots of sites to read about it. I'm thinking about doing Lizzy Borden next. lol, but then again how much more raw can you get then "Lizzy Borden found an Axe, she gave her mother forty wacks, and when she saw what she had done she gave her father fourty-one" Good rhyme though lol.
